The Planning
I thought Elba and Sorrento hotels were expensive; roll on Dubrovnik. Yes, I could have got less expensive. But, reading the reviews … horror……it reminded me: I once stayed in a hotel in Egypt which I can honestly say was the worst hotel I have every visited. I arrived very late at night (in fact about 2am in the morning) in Aswan. The taxi driver recommended the Oscar Hotel. Seriously, it had to be experienced. My room had a hole in the ceiling which was the roof of the hotel. If it had a star rating at all it would be that you could see them in the night sky if you ever dared to lie on the bed. The room was full of insects, it smelt of urine and that night I slept ON the bed fully clothed. The next day (a few hours after my arrival to be accurate) I dismissed all considerations of money and booked into the Old Cataract Hotel. PARADISE. I must re-visit one day.
Interestingly, it seems the Oscar Hotel is still up and running – read the Trip Advisor reviews. When I just read the reviews (to see if it was still as bad as I remember it to be) I notice that it was ranking 21 out of 25 hotels in Aswan. Three aren’t ranked at all; 22 seems on par with no.21.
I digress again.
The Dubrovnik hotel; again a booking through Expedia. I did so much booking of rental cars and hotels that my bank stopped my debit and credit cards and then sent me a text and I was telephoned by an automated voice. I have booked the Villa Glavic. From what I understand, there is a group of hotels which are stitched together or, across the street from one another. The sister hotel is Grand Villa Argentina of Game of Thrones fame and lies across the street. My research showed me that it may be better to stay at Villa Glavic (with better views) and simply walk over to the Villa Argentina if you want.
So, the location:

I trust these two aren’t in charge:
