Salerno – Dubrovnik

This is relatively short leg of 200 miles, 50% over land, 50% over the Adriatic Sea.

From Salerno Airport the track is ENE on magnetic 060° across the Campania and Puglia regions of Italy crossing some medium sized terrain, the highest spot under my track being 4,600′. The route is shown below (click to enlarge; use your back browser back button to return):

DUBROVNIK AIRPORT: MY OPINION

This airport was a very pleasant surprise.  Remember this a very large international airport.  Air traffic were brilliant.  Simple, clear instructions.  No issues.  It was a bit of a relief to change from Italian air traffic control to Croatian control.  The very minute we touched down we were met by a follow me car.  It took us to our parking area.  Within seconds a mini-bus arrived with a young man who said, “Welcome!  What’s your plans then?”  He couldn’t have been nicer.  He was EXCEPTIONALLY nice.  He said he would get a fuel truck to us straight away and then come back for us to sort out our bags and clearance.  The fuel truck arrived within 3 minutes.  Then our man with the minibus returned.  He unloaded our plane and whizzed us to the terminal.  He cleared us through customs and gave us very clear instructions on what to do when we were to return to fly out.  He told us what we should pay in a taxi to get to the centre of Dubrovnik.  When we returned to the airport a few days later to fly out it was the same guy who met us.  He showed us through security and customs.  He helped me with flight planning.  He assisted in getting us weather.  He then waiting while we had coffee.  He took us back to the plane.  While we had been sunning ourselves at our hotel over the past few days the staff at the airport had tied my plane down and put in chocks.  What a fantastic fantastic service.  Full marks to this airport.  I cannot rave about it enough.

Prices:

We parked for four nights.  Brilliant value for money considering the service we got.  Landing and take-off fees were €18.80; parking for the four nights was €26.40, so, €6.60 per day/night.  Handling….that brilliant brilliant service we received cost us €17.00.  There is 25% tax so the costs of €63.20 resulted in a total inclusive of tax of €77.75.

The fuel price including taxes was €2.10 per Litre
