Arrived one and a half hours (1800) ago in Dubrovnik. Flight was just over two hours from Salerno airport, 50% over the land (Salerno to Bari) and then direct to Dubrovnik airport. First impressions? EXCELLENT. Once again, people are incredibly friendly and helpful. Also, there is incredible efficiency here. As soon as I was handed over by Italian air traffic control to Croatian air traffic there was a marked difference. No issues AT ALL. Everything friendly. Dubrovnik Radar and Dubrovnik Tower were perfect. We exited runway 30 at Delta and were told by the tower to wait for a follow me car. I looked across the airport; zooming across the apron was the follow me car. It arrived in about 30 seconds. They parked us. I got out the plane and there was a minibus waiting. He asked us, “What is your plan?” I said, “unpack, head for the old town and get beer”. He said, “Good Plan!!!!! “. Then, “Do you need fuel?” “Yes, we’re leaving on Saturday though.” “Saturday is VERY busy. I’m going to get you fuelled now. I’ll call the truck. You wait here and when he’s finished I’ll be back to take you to the terminal”.
The fuel man arrived. Very friendly. Filled up the plane with lightning efficiency. He drove off. 10 Seconds later, our man with the minibus was back. He loaded our luggage, drove us through the terminal and took us through the passport control (all took about 3 minutes). He bid us farewell and then told us all we needed to know about leaving on Saturday and what to do.
UK and Jersey take note: I said to him, “Everyone is so friendly and helpful here” He said, “Of course. You are a visitor. You are a tourist. We welcome you here and so we are pleased to take care of you so you have a nice time”. Well, f**k me: if every tourist place was that intelligent everyone would wear smiles.
More updates later!!
