From hotels kissing the shoreline, from fresh fish and local delicacies …..Zulu Delta is on the parking stand at Mainz Airport and we are simply too tired to venture out of this tiny little village to go into the city of Mainz…so our supper comprises just that which we could get at the local Esso Garage….

Do you know what is REALLY annoying? Every single hotel we stayed in was devoid of a kettle in the room. When I left Jersey I thought, “shall I pack the travel kettle?” I managed to pack just about everything else into Zulu Delta. I decided against it. Hotels have kettles nowadays. Did they have one in the hotel in Elba? No, they did not. Did they have one in the hotel in Sorrento? No they did not. I had to keep going to the local cafe/coffee joint to get my fix. I thought, “shall I just bite the bullet and buy a kettle?” I decided against it. The hotel in Dubrovnik was a large hotel with probably a lot of English tourists; there would be kettles. Was there? No, there was not. Was there a kettle in the hotel in Vienna? No, there was not. I was totally fed up. I made a promise: NEVER travel without a kettle from now on. I went into town in Vienna and bought a 1000 watt travel kettle for 12 Euros. I bought some fresh milk and then some Nescafe Original. I was a happy bear. We arrived next in Prague. Did the hotel room have a kettle? YES IT BLOODY WELL DID. What’s more, it had a Nespresso espresso machine in the room as well. Lordy Lordy. My newly acquired travel kettle remained in my case. I did however use the Nescafe instant coffee from time to time. When we left this morning to fly to Jersey I thought, “I’m not packing the shower gel I bought or the Nescafe. I have no need to for either.” Here I am in Mainz….having to fork out 10 Euros 80 Cents (what’s the world coming to) to buy Gold Blend coffee from a garage forecourt shop. Luckily, I didn’t have to buy shower gel because I have a supply in my wash bag. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!
