If you’ve read the most recent updates you will know that our planned date of arrival back in Jersey was Friday 28th August but that was scuppered by weather in Germany (and a tiny patch of weather at that). Still, it was the first time that the weather has stopped us flying throughout the whole trip. There have been times when it was marginal and sometimes testing but we always flew.
Well, we arrived back, safe and sound on Saturday at 1450 local time and with enough fuel; the engine had been running for 4 hours 42 minutes which is starting to get a little on the long side for my liking. But, I checked the fuel tanks when we landed and there was still ‘some’ fuel in them. I think I could probably have done about another 30 minutes maximum. Perhaps that may be stretching it; okay, about 20 minutes.
So, I still have a pile of footage to edit up. I just didn’t have the time while I was away to keep up to date. I can’t promise to edit the films in order, so the next few posts will be out of sync. Here’s the latest: our flight back home on Saturday from Germany. I have only edited the first part but I hope you enjoy it. For me, it brings back memories of a kind air traffic controller, Martin, at Mainz; a feeling of relief to know we were on our way home; a tiredness that I can’t explain, caused by almost 5 hours in the pilot seat; a sense of achievement from managing to fly without any real incident over 2,500 miles in a relatively short space of time; and a certain sadness that it’s all over.
